As a newborn and family photographer based in Birmingham, Alabama, it’s always such a joy to be a part of a family’s story from the very beginning. This spring, I had the incredible opportunity to work with the Long family for their 6-month milestone session at Black Creek Dog Park in Fultondale, Alabama. It was session filled with laughter, love, and memories that I’m so honored to have captured.
Y’all already know one of my all time favorite things is our Milestone Membership, which includes a variety of sessions throughout a child’s first year—from those precious early hospital photos to a joyful happy birthday session. The Long family’s 6-month session was a beautiful reminder of why I adore documenting these milestones.
Milestone sessions are such a special way to preserve the fleeting moments that make the first year of a child’s life so magical. The 6-month mark is always a favorite—babies are usually full of big smiles, giggles, and personality, and their curious nature makes for some truly heartwarming photographs. Whether it’s those first signs of sitting up or the excitement of discovering the world around them, each moment is precious.
The Long family’s little one was full of joy, and every time he gave me one of those big, toothless grins, my heart melted. The love between mom, dad, and baby was so evident, and we were able to capture some beautiful moments that will serve as lasting memories.
Choosing Black Creek Park in Fultondale was the perfect location for this stunning spring milestone session!. The park offered the perfect blend of nature with its sprawling greens, white bloom trees, quiet creek, and peaceful atmosphere. Spring in Alabama is so vibrant, and we were lucky enough to have the perfect weather. The natural light shining through the trees created a soft and airy atmosphere—just the kind of look I love to achieve in my photography. It truly was the ideal setting for the Long family’s milestone session.
The soft, blooming spring landscape mirrored the joy and growth in the Long family’s life as they celebrated this six-month milestone. The park’s beauty was the perfect backdrop, and the energy of the session felt light and effortless. From walking down the tree lined paths, to sitting in the sunlight, every moment felt natural and filled with love.
When it comes to family photography, it’s always my goal to create images that feel as personal and authentic as possible…… You have probably heard me say my goal is ALWAYS “connection over perfection.”….. Because life is far from perfect. Life as a family is a beautifully chaotic mess….
With the Long family, it was easy to capture those genuine moments because of the warmth they brought to the session. It’s not just about posing; it’s about telling your family’s unique story. From the way they interacted with each other to the way they embraced this stage of parenthood, every detail made this session so special.
As a light and airy newborn and family photographer in Birmingham, Alabama, I’m always focused on creating images that not only reflect a family’s personality but also showcase the beauty of their surroundings. For me, photography is about more than just pictures; it’s about preserving memories for families to treasure forever.
It’s always a privilege to watch a family grow. The Long family is a true example of how these milestones don’t just mark a moment in time; they are a celebration of growth, love, and joy. I can’t wait to see them again for future sessions and witness even more of the beautiful moments that will unfold in their family’s journey.
To the Long family: Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your story and for trusting me with these precious memories. Watching your little one grow has been such a rewarding experience, and I’m beyond grateful for it.
