As a Birmingham newborn photographer, some of my favorite sessions are the ones where I get to walk back through a familiar front door and meet the newest little person in a family I already love. You get to watch their babies grow, celebrate the milestones right alongside them, and somehow find yourself wondering how in the world time moved that fast.

The Lavender family is absolutely one of those families for me. 🤍

Getting to step back into their home for another newborn season felt like the sweetest full-circle moment. There is just something incredibly special about being invited back into the same family’s story again and again — especially during those brand-new-baby days that somehow feel endless and fleeting all at once.

Another Newborn Chapter With the Lavender Family

I will forever say that one of the greatest gifts of this job is getting to stay.

Not just showing up once, taking pretty pictures, and moving on — but getting to watch families grow. Seeing babies I once photographed become the big kids. Walking back through familiar front doors and realizing how much life has happened since the last time I was there.

Those are the sessions that get me every single time.

And this one was no different.

There is simply nothing like photographing your family in the place where this brand-new chapter is actually happening.

The nursery you spent months preparing.
The bed where everyone piles up together.
The couch that has already seen approximately 700 middle-of-the-night feedings.
The tiny details of home that may feel completely ordinary right now — but won’t always.

That is the good stuff.

And for a brand-new mama? Not having to pack up half the house, get everyone out the door on time, and somehow arrive at a studio looking calm and put together is a pretty dang wonderful bonus. 🤪

… Not to mention even ol’ Yogi gets a feature in every gallery because….. I just can’t with him 🤣

Baby-Led, Family-Focused & Absolutely No Expectations of Perfection

Newborn sessions with me are intentionally relaxed because babies do not care about our plans. 😂

If baby needs to eat? We stop.
If someone needs a diaper change? We stop.
If a sibling needs a snack, a break, or five minutes to decide they actually do want to participate? We roll with it.

There is no rushing through a list of poses and absolutely no expectation that your family needs to be anything other than exactly where you are in this season.

Because I don’t want your gallery to only show me what your baby looked like.

I want it to remind you what this felt like.

The Tiny Things You Swear You’ll Never Forget…

The flaky newborn skin. The fuzzy little shoulders. The way their entire hand wraps around one of your fingers. The sleepy stretches, milk-drunk faces, tiny toes, and the way they fit against your chest like that is the only place in the entire world they were ever meant to be.

You are so sure you’ll remember every bit of it.

And then somehow they are one. And then they’re running through the house. And then you’re looking back at newborn photos wondering how they were ever that tiny. (Ask me how I know. 😭)

THIS is why I photograph the details.

Not because they’re perfect — but because they’re yours, and because this version of your family only exists for such a tiny little while.
