Pumpkin Patches Near Birmingham, Alabama | A Local Family’s Guide

Family enjoying a fall day among pumpkins at Old Baker Farm near Birmingham, Alabama

If you’re searching for pumpkin patches near Birmingham, Alabama, there are plenty of places to choose from β€” and after years of taking our own three kiddos to pumpkin patches around the area, I don’t think there’s one single β€œbest” choice for every family. 🀍 So I thought it was time to turn this old post into something a little more useful: a look at the three pumpkin patches our family has actually visited β€” Old Baker Farm, Penton Farms, and Helena Hollow β€” and what has made each one part of our fall memories.

Old Baker Farm β€” The One That’s Become a Family Tradition

Old Baker Farm will probably always hold the biggest piece of our family’s pumpkin-patch heart. Uselton and I started going WAY back when we were dating and basically babies ourselves πŸ˜‚ β€” and somehow that turned into years of visits, three babies of our own, and a whole lot of fall memories. It may not be the β€œbest” pumpkin patch for every single family, but it is absolutely the one that feels the most like fall to ours.

Peep how life has changed from that first trip to now……

Why We Keep Coming Back to Old Baker Farm

What keeps us coming back isn’t one specific attraction β€” it’s the tradition of the whole day. After this many years, there are certain places that just start to feel tied to a season of your family’s life, and Old Baker Farm has become that for us.

There is plenty for the kids to explore, but I think my favorite part is simply slowing down and letting them wander. Fall is BUSY around here, so I’ll take any excuse to put the phones away for a minute and just be together.

And obviously… the pumpkins. πŸ˜‚ Give me all the weird shapes, soft colors, and Cinderella pumpkins. I’m a sucker for them every single year.

If you’re planning a visit, I always recommend checking the farm’s current information before you go since dates, activities, and seasonal details can change from year to year.

Mostly though? We keep going back because our kids know it. They remember it. And I have pictures from so many different versions of our family there that I can practically watch them grow up through pumpkin-patch photos. 😭

Why Old Baker Farm Has Also Worked So Well for Photos

Old Baker Farm has also been such a fun backdrop for fall sessions over the years because it gives us so much more than a row of pumpkins. There are open spaces, texture, barns, fields, and all those little pieces of fall that photograph beautifully without feeling like a staged set.

For me, the best part is that families can actually move. Kids can walk, explore, hold hands, snuggle up, and be themselves β€” which is ALWAYS going to give me more meaningful images than asking everybody to stand perfectly still and smile at me.

And yes, we absolutely still get the everyone-looking-at-the-camera picture for Grandma. πŸ˜‚ But the in-between moments are usually the ones that end up being my favorites.

Penton Farms β€” Another Pumpkin Patch We’ve Loved Visiting

We’ve also made fall memories at Penton Farms, and this one gets its own spot here because we’ve actually been there with our own kids. I have the personal pictures to prove it β€” including one of Davey sitting right in the middle of a giant pumpkin display in his little overalls and boots. 😭 The photos from our family visits aren’t polished 5U client galleries, but honestly, that’s kind of the point. These are places we’ve experienced as a family, not a list of farms I’m recommending because Google told me to.

Helena Hollow β€” Yep, We’ve Been Here Too

Helena Hollow is another one we’ve actually visited with our littles for field trips, and this one is a completely different kind of pumpkin-patch day. Located in Helena, about 20 miles south of Birmingham, their fall Patch covers 40 acres and is built around WAY more than just picking a pumpkin. For the 2026 season they’re advertising 25+ activities with an all-day pass, including a tractor ride out to the pumpkin patch, Animal Alley, the Corn Barn, Silo City, Treasure Cove, Baby Barn, tire and rope climbs, slides, swings, games and plenty of places for kids to run off every ounce of fall energy they apparently wake up with. πŸ˜‚

The tractor ride out for pumpkins is part of what makes this feel like an actual fall outing rather than somewhere you stop for fifteen minutes, take a picture, and leave. There is enough going on here that you can make Helena Hollow the family activity for the dayβ€”which, depending on the ages of your kids, can either be magical or require a recovery period afterward. πŸ˜‚

And speaking of pictures… do I have a gorgeous professional gallery from our trip to Helena Hollow? Absolutely not. Apparently I was busy being a mama instead of documenting it like a photographer. I did manage to photograph some of the gorgeous pumpkins we brought home, though, so I present you with Exhibit A. 🀣

For 2026, Helena Hollow says The Patch opens October 2 and runs through October 31. Since attractions, hours and ticket details can change from season to season, I’d still check their current information before heading out.

So… Which Pumpkin Patch Near Birmingham Should You Choose?

Family fall memories at Penton Farms pumpkin patch in Verbena, Alabama

I don’t think there has to be one β€œbest pumpkin patch in Birmingham.” The right one is the one that fits the kind of fall day your family wants β€” and sometimes it’s simply the one your kids ask to go back to year after year. For us, Old Baker Farm carries the most history because we’ve been going for so long, but Penton Farms and Helena Hollow have made it into our family’s fall memories too.

And because I’m a photographer, I obviously can’t talk about fall without talking about pictures. πŸ˜‚ Here are just a few of my favorites from fall sessions at Old Baker Farm!
